About Punctum festival

Punctum festival is in its fifth year, intertwining literature with other forms of art. Every spring, the festival brings together Latvian and foreign authors to introduce both new and well-known names of contemporary literature to the people of Riga and its guests. The various events – readings of essays, prose and poetry as well as exhibitions, performance art, discussions and concerts – aim to reveal the many different aspects of literature and its points of intersection with the wider cultural context. Every year the festival is dedicated to a particular topic. In 2018, the year of the Latvian centenary, the festival’s theme was memory, in 2019 it was focused around the urban modernism of the poet Monta Kroma. In 2020, the theme of the festival was violence, focusing on latvian prose master Regīna Ezera. In 2022, in support of Ukraine, the festival will focus on a community theme and mark the centenary of the exile poet Linards Tauns.
